WORKPLACE WELLNESS: WORLD HEART DAY - 2010

The World Heart Day is celebrated on 26 September every year.
The Sunday Newspaper THE HINDU (26/9/2010) had Special front page followed by the next page allotted to the heart.
Everyone who read THE HINDU knows very well, how the front page every day morning influences the minds of people.
‘Wake up to the Heart’ in bold letters really impressed me and induced me to read every word printed on these two pages.
‘Your heart beats 100,000 times a day’
‘Some people have bigger heart’
‘Women’s hearts beat faster than men’s’
‘The average heart weighs ten ounces’ – were some of the facts highlighted on the front page.
Also seven easy steps were described in different color boxes.
Every year there is a focus on which World Heart Day is celebrated in order to bring awareness in the minds of millions of people.
Educating people about their heart, an organ that works Non-stop from womb to tomb is a great service some of the hospitals have undertaken.
Many cardiologists convey their views on heart and its maintenance to the public on this World Heart Day.
Hospitals come forward to reduce the fees for heart CT scan, Master Health Checkup and Cath Angiogram during this celebration period.
Life style has tremendous influence on the condition of the heart.
Working people especially the youth who are tied inside the IT Parks are subjected to a stationary and stressed life.
Realizing this, the theme for this year’s celebration is put as ‘workplace wellness.’
Everyday hundreds and thousands of heart surgeries are performed all over the world.
Modern technology in medicine has evolved excellent tools to tackle the heart related problems.
Wellness of human beings, whatever they are and wherever they are is of paramount importance for everyone.
Therefore prevention, diagnosis and treatment should be available to all at a reasonable cost, more particularly for the people of all ages belonging to urban and rural areas.
Immediate accessibility to the hospital, through ambulance and other means is very essential to save lives of many.
The increased advancement in medical science and the expertise available in every hospital help to a significant level of controlling the cardiac problems.
We need to take care of our heart by adopting appropriate measures as indicated by the learned doctors who specialize in heart and its function.
I hope World Heart Day 2010 will again stress the need for looking back at our heart, the wonder organ of our body.
